Please join Beth Verhey, vice president of non-profit New Community Vision, on Monday, August 12, at 10:00 AM, at the CHA clubhouse where she will explain their efforts to create a nature preserve and attainable housing on the former Timber Shores property (south of Northport). She’ll update us on the recent grants and about the partnerships they have established with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and Larry Mawby’s Peninsula Housing. This is an exciting opportunity to preserve this 214 acre ecologically important lakeshore property.

This event is open to all CHA members and friends who would like more information about what NCV is proposing for our community.

Coffee and donuts will be served.

Clubhouse Door Lock

The rear door lock on the clubhouse has been updated to a more modern, web-enabled lock. While the old lock itself was functioning just fine, the programming software for it (to add and remove member codes) had long been discontinued and was no longer available to download and install on a newer computer. So the association was stuck trying to keep an old Windows 7 (also long discontinued) laptop functioning just to keep the old software running. In other words, it was time.

Going forward, we’ll use a single entry code for everyone and change it occasionally as needed. Please check your email, including your spam folder, as the new code was sent out yesterday.

Owners’ Section Website Password

The Board of Directors decided that it is time to update the password to this website’s owners section effective immediately. The previous password had been in use since 2020 and with the various changes to property ownership, the board felt that it is a good time to do this. The new password was included in the email mentioned above.

CHA Directory

The updated 2024 CHA Directory is available now. The directory has contact information for all CHA residents except those who asked to not be included. Thanks to Tim Claflin for keeping this file up to date! If you were included in the directory, you should have received a copy with the above mentioned email. If you weren’t included and would like to be, or have other changes, please use the Contact link above to let us know what changes are needed.

Please join us for the April 2024 Board of Directors’ meeting on Saturday, July 13, at 10:00 am. This meeting will be held in person at the Clubhouse and also available by Zoom.

If you like to play Pickleball, or to learn more about it, come to the clubhouse court for open play on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome!

A male Main Coon named Chester went missing on May 25th from Leelanau State Park. Reports of a Chester sighting in Cherry Homes were communicated. If you see or have seen Chester, please contact his owner at the following link.

Come meet your friends and neighbors to celebrate the Summer Solstice at the CHA clubhouse park on Thursday, June 20, at 4:20 pm. Bring lawn chairs and anything you want to eat and drink. The grill will be available if you want to grill anything. There will be a campfire and folks will be encouraged to enjoy the sunset if they can stay awake that long!

Though it might seem that the middle of summer would naturally fall on the longest day of the year, the summer solstice and Midsummer’s Day are distinct events, normally a few days apart between 20 and 24 June. The difference is thought to stem from variations in the Julian and Gregorian calendars.

Lighting and jumping over bonfires on Midsummer’s Eve dates to pre-Christian pagan customs. It was thought to keep demons away and bring good luck to lovers.

Join us for our second wine judging (and tasting!) event on June 8 at 5:00 pm. The theme this time is “price points” — comparing the same varietals at different prices. We’ll serve 1-2 oz. pours pre-selected (by the event hosts) wines in brown bags, with a total of 8 or 9 wines. There will be two warm-ups as people show up followed by two flights for scoring. Guests will score the wines on quality and preference based on color, nose, tase, and finish/overall. The scores will be compile and the winners revealed to see which wine rules the evening!

Wine accompaniments such as bread, cheese, and fruit will be provided. Cost is expected to be $20 per person or less.

Signups must be completed by June 1 by using the Contact form link on the menu above or by emailing Melanie Rogers at Melanie (at) thinkdesignstudio.com.
