CHA-Oktoberfest-2026The world famous CHA Chili Cook Off is approaching fast . It’s this Saturday, October 10th, starting at 2:00pm in our clubhouse. All members and guests are welcome!
Bring your favorite Chili to share. Or if chili is not your specialty, bring your best dessert or side dish. Last year’s winners were Denise Stratton, Todd Ansbacher, Lauren Smith, and Carolyn Keefe. Can your chili, dessert, or side dish dethrone these champions? Give it a shot! The more food, the better.
Don’t cook??? Don’t fret. The only thing you are required to bring is your appetites.

The road repair engineering plan and cost estimate commissioned by the Leelanau Road Commission is available for members to review. Find the files in the CHA Owners’ section.
As a reminder, the Cherry Home Board of Directors doesn’t support any major road repairs until we know what it will cost each homeowner. The cost estimate prepared by the engineering firm simply outlines overall construction costs but doesn’t explain any possible cost splitting or sharing with the township and the county — information we feel we must have before making any sort of recommendation either for or against the plan.
On Wednesday, August 19 at 4:00 pm, there will be an event at the CHA Clubhouse focused on Woolsey Memorial Airport. Cliff Hale, a former pilot who used the airport, will speak about Clinton Woolsey and the airport’s history. Mark Krueger will speak about the structural renovations, completed and forthcoming. Wendy Bice will update us on the grants and funding for the project. At the end, we will sample “Woolsey Red”, a special wine that was created by Dune Bird Winery as a fundraiser for the airport renovation. $2.00 from the sale of every bottle goes to help finance the airport project. (State laws prohibit us from selling the wine.)
This event is open to all Cherry Home members as well as their friends, family and guests. Hope to see you there!

Join us on Saturday, July 11, at 2:00 pm, for the 2nd Annual CHA Kayak Poker Rally. A poker rally is not a race! Kayakers will collect playing cards at shore stations along the way between Clubhouse Park and South Park. The kayaker that assembles the best poker hand wins. Here are details:
- All members and guests are invited to participate in non-motorized watercraft
- Paddlers should be in the water at 2:00 pm. Remember that PFDs are mandatory
- You can start anywhere on the shoreline and can paddle south to South Park or north from South Park to Clubhouse Park. You will need to finish at Clubhouse Park for your final card (and hamburgers and hot dogs!)
- Paddlers can start from one of the parks or along the shoreline for waterfront owners
- One kayaker from both Clubhouse Park and South Park will be asked to hang back and act as sweep to aid anyone in distress
- There will be 4 shore stations between South and Clubhouse parks where each kayaker will be given a playing card from each station. The 5th station will be at the clubhouse to give each kayaker a 5th card. The paddle ends at the clubhouse
- A prize will be awarded for the best and worst poker hands
- There will be a hot dog picnic with hot dogs, burgers and soft drinks provided by CHA at the clubhouse park after the paddle and all kayakers and families are invited to attend this event. BYOB
Volunteers are needed to man the shore stations handing out cards, and to cook hot dogs and hamburgers at the Clubhouse.
Come and join your fellow CHA members and guests for this fun event! We’re looking to best the number of 21 kayakers in the water from last year!
The CHA Board of Directors voted at the May meeting to skip our monthly meeting in July as there was no anticipated urgent business. Should this change and we need to meet, we will email the community, post a notice on the entrance board, and post details here on the website.
