A pickleball tournament, complete with awards, was suggested by Mike Germain at the start of summer. Several CHA pickleball players — Ed and Alicia Perdon, Garth Barrett, John Radamacher and Lynn Livingston — teamed up to plan and conduct the tournament.
Defying dark clouds and a passing storm, 14 die-hard pickleball players, among more than 20 who signed up, participated in the first CHA pickleball tournament held Saturday, July 26. Family members and friends cheered as players competed in two events. Cold drinks and popcorn were available throughout the event.
Under grey skies, the Yellow team won the first event testing their pickling skills – groundstrokes, volleys, dinks and serves. Team members were John Radamacher, Ken Ranger and Leslie Etienne. Each player received a small pickleball bag.
The sun came out under blue skies when the players competed in the round robin game plays. Ben Katerberg, was crowned King of the Courts, with Tom Werner as runner-up. Among the ladies, Kathy Dinkle emerged Queen of the Courts and Leslie Etienne was the runner-up.
Players, families and friends partook in a Luau-inspired potluck dinner after the games. Players were pleased with the tournament format and shared thoughts on what worked/what can be improved for the next tournament.
